South Devon Knee Pain Pathway - Map of Medicine

South Devon Local Health Community (LHC) has used the Map of Medicine as a service redesign tool to help achieve the objectives of their Right Treatment and Choice (Right TRaC) Programme. The care journey for patients with knee pain was selected as one of the first to be redesigned by developing a primary care based specialist physiotherapy service.
Please see attached the case study that talks about tangible benefits of using the Map in South Devon LHC including:

* A reduction of more than 400 consultant appointments with a saving of at least £60,000 over the 2009/10 period, even after clinic costs were taken into account
* 70% reduction in the number of referrals to secondary care over a six month period
* Increase in the number of appropriate referrals, with an associated positive impact on the patient experience.
The case study is available on http://www.mapofmedicine.com/support/resources/ .
